Modelo 210 tax return for non-residents in Spain

We review whether you need to file Modelo 210 and assist with the calculation, preparation and supporting documentation for the return.

What is Modelo 210?

Modelo 210 is the Spanish non-resident income tax return used to report certain Spanish-source income. For many foreign owners, the obligation is linked to owning property in Spain, even when they live abroad for most or all of the year.

Property that is not rented out

A non-resident owner may have an annual filing obligation for a Spanish property kept for personal use or left vacant. The calculation depends on factors such as the cadastral value and the rules applicable to the relevant tax year.

Property that is rented

Rental income can create separate Modelo 210 obligations. The taxable amount, deductible expenses and applicable rate can vary according to the owner’s tax residence and the rules in force for the period being declared.

Documents normally required

We usually review the owner’s NIE, property details, cadastral information, ownership percentage, acquisition documents and, where relevant, rental income and supporting expenses. Additional documents may be required depending on the case.

Deadlines and filings from abroad

Deadlines differ according to the type of income being declared. We can organise the information, prepare the return and coordinate the filing while you are outside Spain, reducing the need for unnecessary travel.

Joint ownership and ownership percentages

If a property is owned by more than one person, each owner’s percentage and tax position may need to be reviewed separately. We check the ownership information and organise the filing data accordingly.

If you bought or sold during the tax year

A purchase, sale or change in ownership during the year can affect the period and information to be declared. We review the dates and documents so the filing reflects the actual ownership situation.

Managing Modelo 210 from abroad

Many clients do not live permanently in Spain. We can coordinate the documents, clarify what is needed and prepare the filing remotely, keeping communication in English and reducing unnecessary travel.

The information on this page is general. Each situation should be reviewed individually before taking action or making a decision.
